“You stay here and do your thing. I’ll be taking the shield.” you declared, moving to grab it. Pandora yanked it away from you with a frown.
“I’m not stealing it. I wouldn’t even have anywhere to go if I did!” you said, gesturing at the open ocean.
Pandora considered this for a moment, before allowing you to take it. The shield seemed to make the same humming sound that the Red Guardian’s shield made, but it was of a noticeably higher pitch.
“Be sure that the others don’t find out what it does.” she demanded.
You nodded and ran over to the boy in the pig costume. He glanced up at you, but his gaze quickly fell upon the sizable golden disk in your hand. In fact, everyone was staring at it with looks of puzzlement and curiosity. Black Cat had a particularly unsettling glint in her eye.
“Gordy, I’m gonna need you to launch me over to those ships.” you requested.
He began shaking his head almost immediately. “B-but you could get seriously hurt!” he argued.
You raised the shield and tapped its center. “Just aim for this. I’ll be alright.” you promised.
Without giving him an opportunity to offer a counter-argument, you slipped the shield onto your back, and set up a large web-sling, connecting each point at the helm’s railings, from one side of the ship to the other. Everyone backed away instinctively, not wanting to be whipped in the face when you released your grip.
You wound yourself back, stretching the webline until it became taut. Then, you relaxed your body, and let the webline whip you forward!
You flew through the air at dizzying speeds, the wind filling your ears as it whipped away at the torn fabric of your suit. Despite warning yourself not to, you risked a glance down at the water. Your reflection was a dull blur at the speeds that you were moving at, and you didn’t even want to think about what might be lurking just below.
Just then, your spider sense flared up, and you became increasingly aware of the sound of something ripping through the air behind you.
Almost in instinct, you tore the shield from your back and flipped around to block the incoming wind blast.
The impact nearly tore the disk from your hands! Hell, it damn well near took your whole arm off!
By some miracle, you managed to maintain your grip. Unfortunately though, you were left helpless as you spun uncontrollably!
Your sense of time became skewed, and your surroundings were slowly beginning to blend together. By the time that you finally slowed down, you were alarmed to find that you were nearing the water’s surface!
You brought your arm down, using the golden disk to skip across the water’s surface like a flat stone, granting you a momentary, if diminishing, boost in altitude each and every time.
