Mel settled in front of the fire, trying to ignore the feeling of movement on her arm. They were getting more active, more anxious, which made this meditation all the more important. Steady the breath, focus on it. Now…focus on nothing. Breath. Feel the mana arcing through her body, from heart and mind through her veins, to her fingertips and toes. Back through the body. Just mana, racing through her body, lighting up every part of her. And yet it wanted to escape as well, race out into the world, be ice and thunder and fire, to raise walls, and transform the world. And mana crackled everywhere. It was in the earth beneath her, the air around her, the fire in front of her. In the distance it pulsed in every plant and tree. For a brief moment she felt connected to it all, the pulse of the world.
Her eyes snapped open and the world glittered with mana. Sparkling in the air. Racing through the fire. The building blocks of the earth, coiled in the water of her canteen. The potions shone with light, the wand shimmered with energy. It faded quickly, but with a moment's focus she could call it back, seeing the world beyond the mundane.
