A longer rest seems possible, but not if you wish to the beat these devils to the egg-clutch. After that, you sense that they will rise towards the surface, looting your race’s relics from the rest of the compound—the ‘traditional route’ which the Cartographer suggested excavating and exploring on your return journey, based on his admittedly-old maps. You could head them off there… But who knows what twill become of the eggs, in the meantime, and what valuables or knowledge might be destroyed or removed before you catch them?
