Magnus was defeated.
Indeed the Custodians had done what it was the Omnissiah had planned. They had welcomed the incoming forces of the Thousand Sons with a feint. Giving them ground so that their strength would be mitigated while the Omnissiah had dealt with their maddening Primarch.
When given an series of commands to carry out not even the Skitarii of the Cult Mechanicus could out perform the Custodians of the Emperor. Such a fact was obvious as they not only knew what was to happen, but they intrinsically understood what was the result that should come of it. On the ground modifications was a constant on the battlefield and the cultured warriors of the Custodian Guard were perfect for that role.
Upon the obliteration of Magnus the Red, the Thousand Sons quickly began their retreat. Many of them feeling the fear and awe that had gone through Magnus in his last moments, but most simply having the bad feelings associated with death itself.
The Omnissiah reasoned that nothing more could be expected of this. He was a Shard of Magnus after all and the Thousand Sons had already experienced what it meant to lose their Primarch. A weak connection along with exposure does wonders to one’s temperament on such damning of things.
As the lines began to reform the Omnissiah was focused on controling the damage that was taken by his forces. Already he could see the next thousand years worth of labor that he needed to commit himself to and those thousand years worth of labor was needing theg greatest amount of warriors possible. To minimize Chaos’s influnce upon Terra his Father had sealed the gate behind them, so there would be no reinforcements.
They fought a brutal war in this Webway. The Chaos Daemons pushing so hard that there was good reason to start falling back into more defensible terrain. There were even times the Daemons appeared behind their forces, the thoughts given sentiance quickly learning all the tricks that the webway offered to its visitors.
Things were, for what the Omnissiah realized, was coming along rather perfectly in a relative sense. He knew it could not last forever for when the month began to close upon Terra a hard decision needed to be made.
