You’re here for proof of having killed a lich. IF she truely wish to die“I came here to take back my family’s honor. And for that, I need attestation of a lich’s death.” You steel your voice. “..If it is that you truly want to die, why?”
“Why do you think I’m here?” The lich queen sighs. “I’m immortal now–wholly so–and I’m bored of it. I even burnt my phylactery long ago. And I yet persist, as you can see now. So I constructed a dungeon with spells and shrines to keep potential champions alive, stuffed it full of dangerous monsters to filter out the weak ones, and stuck myself at the bottom, a final obstacle for the truly strong. So that I might rest in peace.”
“And.. others have made attempts, I presume.” You forward.
“Yes. Many. Over a hundred years of attempts.” She tilts her head. “So many–swords, knives, guns, magic, fire.. and one bedded me. But do you truly think you can kill me? What is that on your hip? The BLACK HAND? I hope you have more than that measly toy.”
You flex your fingers. You’d hoped she wouldn’t recognize it. “..And you, Ava.” You glance to the dhampir, who sits atop the throne’s steps. “..Why are you here? Just to visit the lich? A friend of your father’s?”
“Oh, my dear best friend, the lich? No.” The dhampir rolls her eyes. “She guards.. one last stop on my trip. A favor for me. But I’ll let you hash out matters with her, first, before I go there. I thought.. I might show you the true last block. A little prize for being relatively quiet and well-behaved over the trip like a big boy should.”
You clear your throat. “I.. would like you to restore a girl’s memory, lich. The AUF ARSENE here, MILLICENT.” You nod to her, whose lips tighten at your gaze. “Her memories were taken from her by the dungeon, from a faulty shrine. I want you to help her.”
“So a mind it is.” The lich drums her fingers against her throne. “Then what can you offer me in trade for them? I do not deal in charity. If you want to restore her mind, I’d think you should be able to offer me something decent in return.”
