Speaking of larger mysteries, you make it a point to head down to Primm to find out why a robot was the only one they could send to represent the town. Whole Postmaster General Nash is from Primm, he’s been spending most of the time in New Vegas with his wife to help coordinate governmental actions.
You know the city itself is still there, as traders and travelers pass through it constantly to get up to the North Mojave. Realizing that Primm has the potential to be one of the most important locations in the region sans New Vegas, you take a squad of Securitrons from The Strip and head down South. Staying the night in Goodsprings, Trudy is nice enough to hold a banquet in your honor at the Prospector Saloon. Doc Mitchell is there, as is Sunny and Easy Pete. Chet had packed up and left when the NCR had evacuated, though you aren’t surprised knowing how flakey he seemed. The night ended on a high note when you and Sunny had a Tequila and Scotch contest which ended in a hazy albeit fun singing session with the radio.
Departing the next morning, you reflect on your visits throughout the region and commit yourself to speaking more to the average wastelander. These are the people who helped you out along the way and these are the people you’re ultimately doing this for.
The walk down to Primm is quiet, unnervingly so. You pass the occasional traveling caravan, heading to and fro and spend a few minutes getting their thoughts on things but there’s no Powder Ganger threat, no Radscorpions straying onto main roads. But you also notice how empty the Mojave seems to be now, much emptier than it was at least. Where there were rest stops and homesteads now lay abandoned or consist of burnt out husks.
But things gotta get worse before they get better, right? That’s what you tell yourself as you approach the Bison Steve Hotel. Now cleared of Powder Gangers, it was supposed to house hundreds of travelers, merchants and NCR officials but since the withdrawal, it’s about as empty as the rest of the town.
Seeing a few Primm residents walking to and from, you order the Securitrons to hold position near the Bison Steve and walk over to the Vikki and Vance casino. The last time you were here, you returned Vance’s 9mm Submachine Gun to its rightful spot. Admittedly, Primm does look a lot better since then. There’s more lighting poking out from windows and nailed up boards, the Vikki & Vance Casino has a healthy gambling population and a gaggle of smaller businesses have popped up to support the travelers from the NCR border.
“Howdy, traveler! Welcome to the Vikki & Vance Casino! Obey the rules and have a great time!”
Ah, Sheriff Primm. Probably not the smartest idea you’ve ever had to install him as the law in Primm. It almost makes you miss Deputy Beagle.
Instead, you look for a place to get some dinner. Heading to the restaurant counter at the far back of the Casino, you take this time to blend in and get a lay of the land.
