You are immediately on placed on the defensive as your nimble Langlish opponent launches into a flurry of jabs and feints. You had anticipated this, having watched the man at work previously, and are sure not to be overwhelmed or lured into a vulnerable position. While not a master by any means, you do believe you’re coming to recognise the strengths and weaknesses of this foreign style of fighting. It relies on speed and precision over protection and endurance, entirely at odds with knightly opponents you have previously faced off against.
Maintaining your defensive posture, you allow the majority of the bravo’s attacks to patter against your heater shield. You yourself barely get a swing in, more setting a line in the sand and checking his aggression where it risks breaking past your guard. You don’t expect the man to tire himself out too quickly, he’s too good a swordsman for that. You’re simply biding your time and watching for your opportunity.
He does get a few hits in, but your cautious approach deftly ensures that these glance harmlessly off of your expensive plate. His advantage is speed, yours is armour. Whilst he may have gotten the only hits in this round, he is no closer to victory. Still, some of those strikes were <span class="mu-i">very</span> close to the thin gaps in your expertly wrought armour…
