>>5677955You instantly feel the magic take effect, seeing your own hands disappear before your eyes. Your entire body seemingly vanishes as you hear Kars's footsteps retreating, you pushing yourself up from the table. You don't make a sound as you quickly leave the table, hurrying after Kars as the man's steps echo out into the silence of the time stop world. Yet, as you do you can't help but feel uneasy, waiting around each and every corner for a second or two before the man continues his journey. Just as Karn had said before, you can almost feel the being you are pursuing's gaze searching for you as he walks the halls as if he owns the place. So you steel your resolve, determined to use Discern Enemy once he's around the next turn. But as he goes around the corner, you hear him take a few steps, then simply stop. You freeze as well, wondering why his footsteps stopped when the man calls out.
“That's enough skulking about, I know you're there.” the man says, projecting his voice back towards the hall you're standing in. “So, why don't you turn the corner there and show yourself?”
You freeze up for a moment, wondering how in the world you were noticed. Unless he had specific high-level thief skills, he shouldn't be able to notice you through Perfect Unknowable. It erases body heat, electric signals pulsing from the brain, wind moved by one's breath, it mutes and hides EVERYTHING. So how in the hell did he notice? But instead of pondering that you decide to comply, but that doesn't mean you have to do so completely defenseless.
“Body of Effulgent Beryl.” you say, casting the best defensive spell you have. Then you prepare a few other tricks, including Fly and a Triple Maximize Magic: Greater Magic Seal to store away Maximize Magic: Magic Arrow to buy you enough time and distance to use greater offense or defense spells should he attack. Satisfied with your preparations you then turn the corner, dropping your hold on the spell as you see Kars standing before a pair of absolutely massive doors.
“Impressive. Not many can see through Perfect Unknowable.” you say, holding your arms out to your sides in as non-threatening a manner as you can manage. “Tell me, how could you detect my presence?”
“Now now, that would be giving away one of my secrets. And secrets are a very valuable commodity.” Kars replies with a smirk, one that tries to show no direct threat. But you see the exact opposite. The man standing before you is a shark, one with the power to not be afraid of the Super Saiyans. “Now, do pray tell: what do you think you're doing following me? Hasn't anyone ever told you to not interfere in the business of gods, necromancer?”
