The driver slowed their canter as they approached, and stopped between Wilhelm and the others. Wilhelm caught a glimpse of another maiden through the carriage's narrow window. The one on the roof looked down at the highwaymen. "A pack of curs on the road?" he asked with a sneer.
"These lands are the domain of the House of the Wolf, and you will address me as Sir Ludolph," the highwayman snarled.
"All lands are the domain of the Dragon Lord," replied the bearded man. "You would do well to remember this, Ludolph of the swamp. Now go, slink back to your den, before I remember that you have yet one more maiden of your own."
"You would not dare!" shouted Ludolph, and struck Adolph on the shoulder. "Go!" Ludolph spared the bearded man one more hateful glance as his wagon rolled away.
