>>5282908>>5282879>>5282866>Rolled 18 (1d20)You brandish your new flintlock, the BLACK HAND like a hot coal in your hands with a shot in the chamber. You’re more confident in your shot with a rifle than you are with a pistol, but the mountain of black fleece and steel is a difficult target to miss. You levy your sights on the wolf, wrap our finger along the trigger, and pull.
You’d hesitate to call the pistol’s blowback “recoil”--really, it’s more of a full-on assault, and you tumble backward into the flower fields as the gun flies from your fingers. Your hand burns as if set on fire. You just manage to make out the shot as you trip into the petals.
The bullet runs through the horse’s head and grazes the wolf’s side–it leaves a trail of white that traces its path far off into the distance, with no sign of a slope down along its path. The horse explodes into a burst of black dust and smoke and the wolf collapses down into the flowers beneath it. A successful shot to dismount and even injure the wolf, but he would narrowly avoid a shot through the head.
His head whips in your direction and, without hesitation, he bounds toward your cenotaph. The others step out from the graves and flowers after the wolf, but he’s fast–a jet of fur that courses straight in your direction like a comet with his barbed blade in hand.
