Going down alone is dangerous, but K.I.S.A is your secret weapon, unveiling it on something that might not even be dangerous is a bad idea. Besides, it’s not like it can fight that well in cramped spaces like this, so it might just make things more awkward for you if you do get attacked.
You descend the stairs, it only gets damper the deeper you go. You look back over your shoulder to make sure you aren’t followed, but there’s nothing. It’s just some random basement, the chances of them putting anything valuable behind an easily accessible door like this is…
As you approach the bottom of the stairs, you start hearing the sound of computer fans and other machinery. Sounds you’ve often heard in Etsy’s workshop, but hearing it here fills you with dread. Eventually, you do reach the bottom, finding yourself before a room filled with screens, servers, computers, and other electronic things you cannot identify. Unlike the walls that you saw on the way there, those are made of reinforced steel, and you can see wires slithering along the floor like snakes.
“I think that’s where they keep the camera footage, I was able to record over it before, but there were always limitations. Now if we can just-”
Something slams shut behind you. The way out is closed by a thick metal door, you didn’t even see a door on the way in, so you weren’t expecting one to come out of the floor itself.
There’s static on your radio, you can’t understand any of what Etsy is saying. And even worse, her voice isn’t the only one in this room.
“Normally, we’d fill the room with gas, but I’d rather be thorough.” A middle-aged man says as he steps through the metal wall. Literally through the wall, as if he was a ghost phasing through solid matter. “I’ll make it quick. We are a secret government agency in charge of keeping the magic of people like you and I in check. May it be by subduing those that make too much noise, or assimilating them into our ranks. In your case, we would rather keep you alive, so I’ll ask you first, do you want to join us?”
You almost answer ‘no’, but instead tell them that you should discuss such an important choice with Etsy first. You don't think she'd agree, but it's better to ask her rather than assume.
“Unfortunately, she is too much of a loose canon to be considered a proper asset, and I cannot allow you to slip past our fingers like this, so I will have to take you by force. Hope you understand, it’s for the best.”
