The room fell into a quiet stirring as the two had their drinks. If TalOS had to say this silence was more fact of the matter. Rogal did not seem to be the social type of ruler, but the pinnacle of military command from TalOS’s own reckoning. There are numerous legends about people like him, where they either usurp power or are born into it. For most of history, if they are born into power they will succeed greatly while if they claim it for themselves will be murdered by those who they sought to rule over.
Such is human nature. No one likes being taken advantage of or being dominated by even insiders. People like Dorn do not have the innate human connection to build up a powerbase to resist these threats. So, if they instead become a leader through the merit of self or family, they get the benefits of both worlds.
TalOS took notes on this thesis and then considered his options. It was rare for two brothers to sit like this at their ages, even considering that they are Primarchs. TalOS knew several Serfs who willingly divorced themselves from their family because they could, as well as many others who simply lost that capacity during their lifetimes.
The best way to prevent this was to form a true friendship with them and make the family member want to be with you. And the best way to do so was to find things that could be used as common interests.
TalOS also needed to set the record straight for one item.
“Rogal, do you have any projects you are in the middle of working on? Anything other than getting your Legion back together?” TalOS asked while making sure he used his First name to confirm that such previous formalities are not necessary.
“Most of my time has been consumed through reorganizing my Legion. Legion Master Matthias was good at his duty but I have seen many cracks within the structure that needed to be filled. This takes time, and because it takes time I have not had much time for other things.” Admitted Rogal Dorn as he spoke. Normally people would not answer like that, but it seemed to TalOS that his fellow Primarch wanted to make sure he had a perfect understanding of what was being said.
TalOS watched his brother take a sip of the drink in a courteous fashion, “When I do have the time I have been reading. I was taught that an unsound mind is far worse than any failure in the physical defenses. I agreed with his assessment and have been employing it.”
“I agree as well.” TalOS answered back with triumph to ask, “And who was this person?”
“My Grandfather.” Answered his brother.
