“Seriously.” An awe-struck Ashe remarks. “That’s the stuff of legends we’re talking about.
“I’m sure the three of you faced no shortage of exciting battles as well.” Byleth says with a smile. “You’ve all grown so much in such a short time. I can hardly believe it myself sometimes.”
“Ahh, is Lord Seteth around?” You suddenly remember the Seneschal. Always next to Byleth, his absence was suddenly unusual. “Should I report to him as well?”
“Seteth and his sister are currently in mourning.” Byleth says. “They’ll be absent from their duties for some time. Worry not, I’ll let them know of your success. I’ll also see that the gold that was promised to you for your work is delivered shortly.” She smiles, changing the topic quickly. “Tell me, do you intend to stay working as mercenaries? Even though the fighting had died down, I’m sure a company of your renown will hardly have difficulty finding employment.”
“Absolutely not.” Corrine shakes her head. “Blair’s a Countess now, teach. She can’t be stooping down to mercenary work anymore.”
Though it was obvious the Blackwings would dissolve one day, it was still something you’d hardly thought about. Ending things so suddenly would not be easy. But Corrine was right. You had no desire to continue mercenary work, nor would you want the company to continue. The Blackwings had done their job, and it was time to lay the company’s name to rest. Once Byleth’s payment of gold was distributed evenly, it would be time to say goodbye to many of your comrades.
“You’ll be leading Rusalka now?” Byleth asks, surprised. “That’s wonderful. It seems that you and I have something in common, Blair. We’re mercenaries that have jumped up the latter far higher than we could ever have imagined. Tell me, from one sellsword to another, is there anything you think you’ve learned from your travels that will benefit you as a ruler?”
