<span class="mu-b">“D-did you look inside?”</span> Ester inquired.
Glass lowered his opaque eyelids as he turned to glance at Ester.
<span class="mu-g">“She gave me a sample of Kick. It's a mutant power booster that's been popping up on the street again. It's super addictive, though. I've seen people who abuse it, and it isn't pretty.”</span>
He actually looked a bit angry, which was rare for him. But as soon as he noticed Ester's look of concern, he quickly schooled his expression.
<span class="mu-r">“Then why'd you decide to hold onto it?”</span> you asked.
<span class="mu-g">“Because I need Callisto to track down the people who made it. If someone's producing Kick again, then we've gotta put a stop to it.”</span>
<span class="mu-r">“Why not follow the dealer? That’s a pretty solid lead.”</span>
<span class="mu-g">“That’s Plan B. I still have to talk to Callisto about it before I do anything else.”</span>
You put Ester down and folded your arms over your chest.
<span class="mu-r">“That can wait. Don’t think I didn’t notice how you deflected my question earlier. What’s on your mind?”</span>
Glass looked at you, and then craned his neck up to stare at the leaves hanging over his head. The back of his head <span class="mu-i">thumped</span> against the tree trunk, and he let out a quiet sigh.
<span class="mu-g">“I don't know how to be a leader, Ben. I was a half-decent field commander when I was in the X-Force, but that's about all the experience that I have.”</span> he confessed.
<span class="mu-g">“People are counting on me to make things work. To make sure that this place doesn't get raided by cops and human supremacists. I need to guide and protect them, but I don’t think I can do that when we're this exposed.”</span>
Ester's frown deepened, and Glass reached out to pat her head.
<span class="mu-g">“Sorry, E. That's probably not what you wanted to hear. I just want to make sure that I'm doing right by you all. You're all so important to me. You're my only family.”</span>
