Another question:
My idea is based on a pre-existing franchise and will often (but not entirely) use established characters in said setting. What would be things to keep in mind while doing so and are there any pitfalls I should avoid?
Related to that question, how should I approach trying to get people into the quest who otherwise have no knowledge/interest of the setting? I want this to be a quest anyone can take part in and enjoy rather than just people who know the setting.
I tried to run this quest years ago using an approach where I actually kept the fact it was said franchise a secret with hints and clues until certain characters would appear so as not to turn away people, but within several updates quickly realized this was a pretty foolhardy method and called it off.
