>>5829541The rebels flee Ostia, and you and your company depart before any of the Adrestian soldiers return to the scene. By now, they’d likely scattered off back to the garrison, and were likely holed up there waiting for reinforcements. By the time they muster the courage to leave those walls, you should already be on your way to Enbarr, your mission a success. You and the rest of the Blackwings fly through the woods surrounding the Morgaine Ravine, on your way to destroy the first target. From the sky, the bridge looks much like you remember it looking all those years back. You have no idea when the thing was constructed, but it still looked sturdy. Made of stone, the bridge was one of two that connected the southeastern part of the Empire to Hresvelg and Derdriu. And though it looked sturdy, it was not built to withstand a magical assault. As expected, there was a small troop of Imperial soldiers on guard, lazily watching a large queue of several trade caravans passing by. Given their relaxed nature, you didn’t think it was likely that anyone from Ostia had stopped by here yet. But you knew that could change at any moment.
“I could probably take that thing out with a single Eclipse.” Anemone says, referring to her own brand of siege magic. “Or you could. Either way, it’ll crumble fast.”
“Ahh, there’s still wagons travelling across it.” Diana observes.
“Not our problem.” Ava says.
“But they’ll get caught up in the bridge’s collapse.” Diana counters. “Can’t we just wait for them to pass by?”
“The longer we wait, the more we risk news of our presence spreading.” Eleanor says. “We’ve been lucky so far, but we would be fools to expect to remain undetected for much longer. We should destroy this bridge and move on to the next one before they can retaliate. I suspect any reinforcements we face wouldn’t be as timid as the men we fought at Ostia.”
“Though it’s a bit distasteful, Eleanor is right.” Ingrid says. “The Empire had no qualms about doing this type of thing back in Faerghus. We’re on a strict schedule, Blair.”
