Glass frowned at her. “Well those people are just bitter and prejudiced. They think that anyone without any physical deformities or horrible mutations doesn’t deserve to be down there.”
Well that wasn’t right. The Deep One could change back and forth between her mutated form and human form, and Callisto seemed to have pretty good control over her tentacles. If the two of them really wanted to, they could easily pass for human.
As for Glass…well, there was no way he could pass for human without a ton of makeup or cloaking technology. But even then, you’d never thought he was ugly.
His appearance was certainly striking, but not at all unpleasant to look at if you didn’t pay too much attention to the way his eyes swiveled in their sockets. The shimmering emerald material that his skin was made of could even be called beautiful in a certain light.
In fact, given the structure of his face, Glass might’ve been quite the looker before his mutation kicked in.
Compared to them, W wasn’t all that different. Knowing that, maybe they’d feel differently if she spent enough time with them.
But that wasn’t important right now. What was important was getting these guys upstairs to meet Gloria.
“Don’t let them get to you, W. They just need time to get used to you, is all.” you said.
She gave you a weak smile, but it grew a bit stronger as the other two gave her words of encouragement.
You clapped your hands together to grab their attention again. “We should get going soon. You guys might want to change into your costumes.”
Glass gave you a puzzled look. “Costume? I haven’t had one of those ever since I quit the X-Force.”
“Ooh! I bought a new wetsuit just for this occasion!” Iara squealed.
“Is there going to be water up there?” W asked.
Iara shrugged. “Probably not. I just feel like wearing it. It’s sleek, and shows off my killer figure.”
She ran her pale hands down and along her curves in an enticing manner. The Deep One was incapable of blinking in her current form, so she instead lowered a translucent membrane over one eye as if to imitate a winking motion.
You couldn’t help but laugh.

Several minutes later, the four of you were standing in another meeting room with everyone else. W and Iara had changed into their respective costumes, while Glass…was pretty much wearing his casual clothes, which consisted of shorts and a slightly torn spandex short sleeve shirt.
Gloria took her time measuring up your newly recruited comrades, her assessing gaze flicking from person to person as she tapped the side of her face with a finger.
The similarities between W’s costume and yours weren’t lost on her, as evidenced by her looking back and forth between you several times, but she didn’t comment on it. And despite The Deep One being the most eye-catching out of your group, she seemed to receive the least amount of scrutiny.
