The Knight placed the scythe on the ground next to him, walking forward with a soft caution in his steps. It took five of these graceful steps to reach the downed steed, after which he kneeled next to its head.
His hand graced the neck of the mighty beast. Blood from her injuries spattered all across his hand. Taking in a sigh he took her head form the elf and spoke, “Thats enough Nightshade. I release you from service, go on to the next life.”
As if she heard and understood his words, the subtle breathing that the Knight felt on his hands was gone. Her chest, which was rising and lowering, had stopped. The beast had finally allowed the ghost to take its life.
“You did not hesitate.” The woman said as she studied Lucian closely, “This was the steed you rode into chaos itself yet you released it so willingly. Why?”
“Because Morr had made it clear it was her time had come.” Lucian answered the Elf as he gave a soft prayer, “It will be up to the Gods if I am to receive a new steed in due time, but we cannot dally on the injured or the dead for long. My homeland, Bretonnia, is under assault by the forces of Chaos. We cannot linger.”
“Daemons upon your heels.” The Elf said as she rose to her full height. This close the Knight could confidently say that she was roughly as tall that he was. And Lucian knew that he was relatively tall when it came to Bretonnians and mankind in general.
“Bok.” Lucian called out as he tucked the horses head into his arms, “Help lift.”
On command the puppet acted. Bok walked over and with his immense size lifted the steed up from the middle and began carrying it. Lucian wondered if the Kroxigor would have simply ate the horse, but Bok must have had his filling of Chaos meat instead.
They traveled until they were outside the influence of Chaos, where the taint no longer scorched the ground. There a quick hole was dug, one that was roughly three feet deep, before they settled the horse into the pit and covered it.
There they rested for an evening, Sellalli began the healing of Lucian and Bok’s wounds. Lucian remarked that things were slow but it was happening. They could move, and that was good enough for Lucian.
When night was over they left after the Knight gave a final prayer. Northwards towards a lone mountain.
