“Well I’m a rich person, and I think your food is delicious.” you said, raising your torta at her.
She gave you a beaming smile.
“Thanks! I…like how shiny your outfit is.”
“I guess it would make sense for a chef to have such excellent taste.”
Ameyama chuckled. And without even having to turn to look around at your teammates, you could practically feel them rolling their eyes.
But the fact that Namida’s food was so good ended up working out in your favor. Because the longer they stayed outside, the more time Flint had to set everything up for the real party.
You managed to keep them away for about half an hour before they got tired of standing around and walked back inside. But they didn’t get very far.
Everyone in front of you either stopped at the entrance, or turned back to stare at you. To their surprise, the entire room was bathed in red, with the exception of the various spots on the ceiling and walls that were being illuminated by rotating, strobing multi-colored lights. The decorations were relatively cheap, and mostly consisted of changing a few light bulbs and setting up some light machines that only cost a couple hundred dollars. Those new speakers on the other hand…
The exclamations of your friends helped to take your mind off the price tag.
“What the hell is all this?” Ember asked.
“Is that a karaoke machine?” Cat inquired.
“Oh, hell no.” Prowler cursed, shaking his head with a faint grin on his face.
“Awesome job, buddy!” you shouted up at Flint, exchanging a thumbs up with him.
“Ladies and gentlemen!” you continued, loudly clearing your throat to grab their attention. “We’ve now reached the karaoke segment of our little get-together. So I suggest you pick out a song and get ready to belt out some melodic tunes. Who wants to go first?”
Felicia raised her hand almost immediately.
“I’m game. But…I’m gonna need a partner for this one.” she said, her sharp blue eyes scanning the crowd.
Prowler was already shaking his head in refusal, and neither Benga nor Ember was jumping at the chance to volunteer.
“A duet for our first song! Bold move.” you said, nodding your approval. You were about to volunteer yourself, when Araña stepped forward.
“Alright, fine. But I get to pick the song.”
Cat gave her a playful grin.
“Fine by me. Mic, please!” she said, holding a hand up, and easily catching the microphone that you tossed at her without looking.
“Don’t you dare throw mine, Sandman!” Araña protested, carefully accepting her microphone and tablet from Flint.
She must’ve known exactly what she wanted to sing, because she selected her song after only a minute or two of browsing through the catalog.
“Who wants it next?” Flint asked. He had to shout to be heard over the sound of Felicia and Araña’s duet.
