> Use Arx Merco shouts from the tree line to ambush and thin their numbers, then Merco to get out fast
Mel stalked through the tree line finding a clear line of sight with the first tower sentry. “Arx Merco!” A line of five ice spears materialized over her head. The nearest sentry jerked toward her, walking to the edge of the lookout tower. It lifted a metal sheet and club, leaning out. Arx vibrated above her, eager to launch. Mel stared at the sheet for a moment, was it some kind of alarm?
Spears launched, ripping ribs, leg and arm apart. The metal sheet clattered to the ground noisily and the other sentry jerked around, scrambling to grab its own alarm. “Arx Merco!”. Another flurry of spears lunged out, one smashing through the skull of the sentry, the skeleton collapsing into lifeless bones as smoke spilled from the skull. The sound of wood on metal filled the air, a chaotic and loud clattering. “Merco.” A surge of anxious energy filled her and she shot through the wood, weaving through trees and bouncing over underbrush, air pressing against her face, moving through the forest like a deer.
More clattering filled the camp, and armored skeletons spilled out the gate, huddling in two groups of two, the uniformed soldier standing between them. It raised a hand.
“Terr!”
Something rushed through the ground, cracking the earth, then exploded in a shower of earth that shook the ground. Mel stumbled for a moment, even watching at a safe distance, then sent a barrage of spears back. The uniformed skeleton knelt, slamming a hand into the ground, a short wall bursting up in front of him, the spears burying themselves into it. The uniformed skeleton rose back up, a sphere of smoke clutched in both hands. The skeleton thrust its hands forward, sending the smoke rolling into the trees a little closer to Mel than she’d like.
Then it exploded in a brilliant ball of fire that illuminated the forest, concussive blast rattling leaves and branches. Mel shielded her eyes even as a gravely voice called out.
“There she is! Sally forth lads and we’ll string her up!”
Time to be somewhere else.
