>>6118522One wonders then why they are sharpening swords. Why they are camping in full armor. Zivka realizes they fully intend to sleep in it, vambraces, greaves, cuirass and all else. An uncomfortable, long sleep with metal digging into your sides. You wake stiff and cold come morning, muscles slow and sore.
But you do wake wearing the full armor of your profession with a weapon close to hand. They're famous for doing it. Raincatchers - Pytherii heavy infantry - sleep standing the full armor. If the joke are to be believed, they need the arrows pinging off of it to wake them up at all.
But all that stuff is a measure for war, if you're blundering about in hostile territory, expecting ambush, woe and worse things. No one subjects themselves to it willingly, certainly not four soldiers out on detached patrol where no higher officer can come at snarl at them for having boots that aren't quite polished.
So there's a contrast then. Between the presumed invincibility of the Legion and the fact that you'd be utterly mad to attack them, and the very fact that these men are acting as if they have orders to presume they could be attacked. They might not be expecting a fight. But someone's told them to be ready for one.
The Scraghound rubs its long head against Zivkas hand and rumbles low in the throat. Communicating via vibrations and the little growl in the air. It takes Zivka a little longer to pick up what its attempting to convey.
Smell it: Beyond the sizzling meat on the open flame.
Sword oils and leather polish and of all curious things: soap.
These men have not been here in the Wastes on their long patrol very long at all.
Might be worth approaching the fire and inquiring as to what all this is about.
Might be worth skulking back down the way and making like a ghost in the night.
Zivka is [Thoughts Success, +2] fairly confident the Legio out here have a standing order to treat travellers with hospitable intent. Might score some meat and snack for the hound in exchange for a story.
Zivka is [Sense success, +2] fairly confident these troopers are just a little too fresh to have been here long. Which is strange.
>Too strange. I'm out.>Well, not too strange. HO THERE. WHAT'S COOKING?>Maybe I could [...???] to find some more information>maybe I should just take a nap I'm very very very tired>...?
