You’re driven for a few miles until you can see a couple of white trucks blocking the road in the distance. They honk a few times as you close the distance and slow to a stop right by them. An older looking white guy steps out of one of them and you exit to meet him.
“Hi there,” a friendly sounding voice calls out with a noticeable midwestern accent. “Not sure I’ve seen you around. Or anyone dressed like that,” he says in reference to your guards. “This is a nuclear zone, what’re you doing here? You lost there, buddy?”
“No, I think our people met before. We’re from the Sun Belt Crusaders, and we’d like to speak to your leader.”
“Sun Belt Crusaders, eh?” He scratches his chin. “Rings a bell, but hard to keep track of everyone, you know? As for our leader, how about we act like I’m the leader for how. Tell ya’ what, how about you tell me what you want and I’ll tell you if we can help you out, buddy.”
“Cardinal,” one of your guards interjects while pointing in the way back. “They got a truck behind us on the road.”
“Don’t mind them, that’s just security. Standard stuff for a nuclear zone. We’re just having a friendly chat is all, right?”
“Right,” you play along. “We’re from Mobile, just a little to the east of Gila Bend. That ring a bell.”
“East of Gila- Oh, I remember you guys! You guys were running some kind of factory and using a crazy amount of electricity. There was an Eastern European type around I remember.”
“Eastern European type?” you ask since that doesn’t really narrow it down much. “Was it Dragomir Trkulja, by chance? He does logistics.”
“Yeah?” he asks himself, looking up in thought. “Yeah, I think so. How’s he doing nowadays?”
“He’s fine,” you lie. “He’s taking a bit of a religious sabbatical trying to get over some things, destress. You know, sometimes people need a break.”
“Absolutely, absolutely. Well, if I may ask, what brought you here? Doubt you just wanted to see the plant. If you’re looking for cooling towers, I’m sorry to say that we don’t have any of those. Not one of those plants. Though this is one of the most advanced facilities out there, capable of using mixed fuels that’ll let us outlast whatever Civil War nonsense is going on, and the largest plant in the whole country. We can’t let you in any of the buildings, and we’d really prefer you don’t touch anything. For our safety, and yours too...”
