Cammy pilots her nearly empty Crocodile Mk2 to a hangar on the freshly captured airbase where she had arranged to meet her ground crew. As she powers down and climbs from her mech, a young woman bounds up to hug her. Her outfit is as stylish and form fitting as a pair of ground crew coveralls can be. Her pink hair is tied up into two high ponytails that cascade down the back of her neck. “Cam-cam! I heard you were fantastic out there! And I see you barely brought anything back! How many kills did you get?
From the embrace of her friend, Cammy would respond sheepishly, almost as if she was guilty of some crime. “F...Five, I think. I can only take partial credits for them, though.”
Another young woman would walk up, carrying a large box of tools and diagnostic equipment on her shoulder. She was taller, broader, and, though it was hard to tell through her baggy coveralls, clearly more muscular than the other two. Her brown hair was tied back into a simple ponytail to keep it out of her way while she worked. She would set down the heavy box on the ground with a grunt and scold her companion.
“Ophelia, you know Cammy doesn't like talking about that stuff, so give it a rest. The battle is last thing she wants to think about right now.” She would look Cammy up and down. “You all right? The Croc looks untouched.”
Cammy would respond shyly “...Yes, Judith, I'm all right. I was able to keep out of sight for most of the fight.”
Judith would nod. “Good. Those new missile launchers did their job.”
Ophelia would release Cammy from her hug. “Hey! Don't make it sound like I don't care. Cammy, I can't tell you how much we appreciate these jobs you got for us, after all that has happened....” Ophelia would trail off, not wishing or needing to elaborate further. “But those numbers – I can use them to sell our services. We're mercenaries now, after all, got to keep getting those contracts!”
The sad look in Cammy eyes causes Ophelia to change the subject. “A-anyways, I heard Hoyt – you know, the one with the funny accent – he's actually cooking up some meat from the Mega-fauna! The bear I think. You wanna go try it?”
A faint smile would appear on Cammy's lips, a rare sight. “So he actually did it... Sure. But, uh, if he tries to kiss me... Please stop him...”
Ophelia would laugh. “Now, there's the Cammy I miss! Don't worry, I don't think Judith would let anyone with ill intent get within ten feet of you. Now, lets go get some barbecue!”
Judith would stop rummaging among the tools in her box. “Yeah, there ain't a dent in this thing. Maintenance can wait 'til later. Let's get some grub.”
And the three girls would walk from the hangar, leaving the machines to their own silence.
