Now that the wrench is safely contained, the three of you take a moment to process what happened.
"Jesus Christ." "W-woaw." "Told ya. The nose knows."
You're going to check on that later. Now knowing how much of a fire risk that stuff is, you're going to be EXTRA careful messing with this stuff in the future.
The three of you huddle around another table. Lucy secures a piece of human flesh onto a sheet of metal, just in case the bile you're using is going to erupt into fire again. "S-so. W-we d-didn't let this t-touch our b-bare skin. I-I think it's smart i-if we see what happens if it did."
You fill a syringe with some bile, and you squirt a few drops onto the chunk of dead flesh. Anthony is standing by with a bucket just in case something horrific happens. And, it so happens, something horrific DOES happen. The inert piece of flesh begins to change right before your eyes.
The flesh has now taken on a very pale white tone, like it has been left outside in the Arctic for hours. Anthony pokes at the sample with his hand out of curiosity more than anything. He yelps out in shock, pulling his hand away from the chunk of flesh.
"H-hoo boy! That's ice cold!"
You carefully touch it with a gloved hand, and, hoo, touching an ice cube would be better than this. It only took a few drops to lower the temperature by THAT much, huh? Extreme cold and extreme heat, all in one sample. At least it's versatile in the damage it can do.
You do one last test: you lower a small piece of scrap metal into the BLACK BILE bucket. You wait for a few minutes to make sure it has had time to soak in the bile before you lift it out and clean it off.
The piece of metal is cool but nowhere near as cold as the piece of flesh you used. Interesting.
Lucy checks up on the wrench you threw into the water. As she shoves the lid off, your ears pick up on the all-too-familiar sound of boiling water.
Your group huddles around the bucket to see what's up. The flame is STILL burning, but it has greatly reduced in intensity. All that's left now is a wispy black flame clinging to the bile.
Hot steam pours out of the bucket, and it doesn't seem to be letting up any time soon. The wrench itself is fine; there's no visible damage on it.
"Ya know, Vince. Most sources of power are made from this." Anthony gently taps the bucket with the boot. "Boilin' water."
"Lucy. How long was the wrench on fire?" "U-uhm. B-best guess, 10 minutes?"
The three of you share a look with each other. Of course. Everything eventually returns to boiling water for energy, huh?
BLACK BILE PROPERTIES DISCOVERED!
>It rapidly chills anything it comes into contact with. The amount of heat lost seems to be different depending on if its organic or not. Could act as a refringent? Probably profitable too!
>The bile is DANGEROUSLY FLAMMABLE. Fire produced by igniting the bile takes ages to be put out, even if submerged in water. ARC would pay a pretty penny for this.
