Their travels took several days from what Lucian was being told by both the Dwarfen Scouts and Adok. He did have a sense of what days were in the Underway but without the sun or the moons it was not the same.
The same went for how far they traveled. It was claimed that their trip was already halfway towards Karak Kol but the Knight could not say. Every piece of stone, while clearly lovingly carved through by the hands of Dwarfen miners, looked the same as the stones they had seen before.
Yet it was this aspect more than any others that was likely keeping them all safe. For what Lucian saw simple stones that were full and held nothing less, the Dwarfs knew to be hidden passages and holes for them to keep themselves safe within.
Said holes were not the lap of luxury but neither were they decrepit. The Dwarfs for all their work had made the best of stone beds and the best furnishing one could also from stone. As they were all made from stone nothing within these chambers rotted, and dust was also kept at the lowest it can be. Only the pieces of vegetation that sometimes penetrated the lookout portals were bringing the rot of the outside within these holes.
Lucian glanced out of a hole just like that one. Cleverly it was positioned so that none would stand witness to it unless they were looking directly at it, and even then it would be hard to notice among the black stone wall it was within. When they arrived this hole was covered with a thick stone that made it inscrutable from the other stones that surrounded it. Now that Lucian looked through it, it was simply a black patch on black stone.
He was keeping watch at the moment, seeing if they needed to organize a retreat or perpare for a seige. It was Lucian’s understanding that this hideout was not prepared for something like a siege, no ways of clear escape, but he would not put it past the Dwarfs to have something prepared. In the end this was both for their safety and for their mission, if anything came by it would be good information to know.
Luck was in Lucian’s favor, for in addition to his eyes adjusting to the Underway’s light he was blessed with fluorescent lighting of fungi. Such was the reason he was on watch this ‘night’.
