With war on the horizon, it’s likely many mercenaries and soldiers of fortune will be making their way here to enlist in one such company or another. Mercenaries are a fickle sort, prone to switching sides at the first sign the battle may turn against them. But you’ve proven yourself otherwise. You defected from the Empire at the height of their power to aid us in our time of need. You’ve shown character and leadership that both myself, as well as Prince Dimitri can rely upon. Therefore, we’d like to fund your company.”
“Ashe always spoke highly of your strategic ability back at the academy.” Dimitri says. “A tactician with high scores from Garreg Mach is a tactician well sought after. With your ability, as well as your ability to lead others, we believe this to be a sound investment.”
“We’ve taken the feedback you’d given us seriously.” Sir Bertram says. “As you’re no doubt already aware, we’ve begun installing ballistas around the city walls, in preparation of any attacks from Demonic Beasts. We’ve also begun plans to instruct the citizenry in archery to counter the Imperials, should the need arise. I imagine there’s much more we can do with your input.”
“Charon is not a wealthy territory by any means, but we’re prepared to offer you a sum of 30,000 gold coins to fund this endeavor and help bulwark our forces.” The Margrave says.
>“30,000!?” You nearly bite your tongue.“My lords, this is a most generous offer.” Corrine cuts you off before you say anything stupid. “And we shall certainly consider it, though I must ask. How long would we be expected to be in service to the Kingdom for?”
“Two years.” Margrave Charon says. “Or until the Kingdom, Empire, or Charon falls. Whichever comes first. After which, you’re free to do as you please.”
“That’s not the only reason I’d like you to stay here in Charon.” Dimitri says. “Already, refugees from Garreg Mach have arrived in Charon. Many of them are members of the clergy. Citizens. A few Knights of Seiros. Others still, are students from the academy. Some of whom have no other place to go. I believe they would be an excellent asset here for you to utilize. And I’d feel more at peace knowing you were there to ensure their safety.”
There’s nothing to think of, nor do you have the luxury of time. You’ve made up your mind already.
>A): I accept your terms.>B): I decline. Two years of service is far too long.
