Sitting in the shade with a nice breeze blowing does seem to simmer her down and after a few hours of eating and talking, you manage to slowly convince her to go up with you. Dr. L’Enfant walks the two of you through the ins and outs and while you know how to control this beast, it puts Cass’ mind at ease with how simple the ignition device is.
She death-grips the edge of the basket with one hand while wrapping her left around yours, but doesn’t complain as you pull the plunger to begin igniting the balloon. Within minutes, you and her begin slowly rising in the sky. There’s strong ropes tethered to the ground to stop drifting, but the view of the Mojave spread out before you.
You’re not sure why but being up in the sky with just Rose of Sharon Cassidy, far from danger, is the most at peace you may have ever been. Cass slowly relaxes her grip and begins enjoying the ride.
Cass: I used to hate the Mojave. The day you walked into the Mojave Outpost, I was about to say fuck it and head somewhere else. Maybe up north to Salt Lake or somewhere back in the NCR.
She turns to you.
Cass: I’m really glad I didn’t.
She pulls you into a kiss. It’s not the longest you’ve ever shared with a woman, nor is it particularly sexual in nature. But it’s by far the most intimate moment you’ve shared with someone in…maybe forever?
The balloon soon comes back down to earth and while the picnic is over and the two of you head back to New Vegas, the feeling of her lips on yours doesn’t fade any time soon.
