And that you did. Both of you sat there and stared at it as it hummed and squirmed for nearly ten minutes. You were about to call it, when the plant-thing went suddenly still.
Just then, the tree roots began to shift and twist. Callisto cursed and nearly jumped back as a root that had been close to her foot slithered past like a slow-moving snake. Little by little, each one exited the tunnel and crawled back out through the holes they’d created. The last to go was the limb that the plant-thing had been connected to. And you could’ve swore that it was waving goodbye to it as it retreated.
“What the hell…” Callisto breathed.
“It worked…” you said, sighing with relief as you gently patted the creature’s head.
“It actually worked.” Callisto confirmed. “I can hear those roots up there. They’re replanting themselves somewhere further up, splitting apart and diverging to cover a wider area. At the very least, they aren’t cutting through any more pipes.”
“So that means this guy really is the solution to your problems.” you proclaimed, holding it out to her.
Callisto stepped closer and held her hands out to accept him. The plant creature hesitated for a moment, before jumping into her arms.
“Aww, he really does like you.” you laughed, watching as a particularly slimy tendril slid up and down the right side of her face.
“Lucky me…” she sighed. “I’ll still need to call Polaris to fix these pipes, but at least now she won’t have nearly as much work to do. Thanks, Huntsman. You’re a lifesaver.”
“Hey, what’re friends for?”
Callisto almost smiled, but the moment was ruined by a stray tentacle getting a little too close to her mouth. Callisto flinched back and sputtered, and you couldn’t help but laugh as she struggled to get the creature under control with a few tentacles of her own. The plant-thing seemed both confused and impressed by them.
What will you say?
>”Are you gonna give it a name? Donny can’t be the only plant mutant with a name.”>”Do you think he was communicating with Donny earlier? Maybe he’s still sentient, even as a giant tree.”>”I wonder if I can convince Mantis to come down here to help. I think she has a similar ability to communicate with plant-life.”>”This is just too precious. I should take a picture to capture this moment. I’ll caption it: ‘Callisto and her newborn Squid-baby’.”>Write-in.Pastebins:
