In the end they had to leave behind the bodies. They were not fools in that the AI was likely hoping that he would get a chance to try and recover himself. To strike a series of assassinations that would score him the win. To prevent such a thing the bodies of the fallen were left behind.
As they entered the room the Skitarii quickly ran about to secure it. Looking about the Captain noticed a series of panels being left open from when the AI had released the horde against them all.
“Warning, removal of the Hydrogen Reactor will result in facility failure.”
So that was the last defence the AI could muster. A threat that he knew it would not go through with.
L3KT kneeled at the device and began to pray. Though he could have watched the pitiful end of the AI the Captain knew the risks were too great to let his guard down. So with that in mind he took station at the front door just waiting for the machine to make an attempt.
And in fact it did as one of those melee constructs came rushing towards him. A last ditch effort to overpower the wounded Astartes and kill all those who were inside. Lorch took out his Chainsword and with a cleave made the construct two pieces instead of one.
+In the Machine God, I relinquish you of your spark.+ He said as the plasma reactor died down into a dead bulb. In the next few moments the entire room darkened except for the lights of the Astartes, Acillian, and Skitarii.
They were victorious at the cost of six Skitarii and two Astartes. But the knowledge that was held within the facility was well worth their deaths to the greater Mechanicum. That Lorch was sure.
