>>5842799>Stay with the eggs. There are several more. You’d like to give them a better welcome than your sibling did for you.Your older sibling is stronger, clearly, but you possess a level of natural cunning. They made a bad first impression when they began prodding your dreaming mind and slapping your egg around. If you can ally with the other three, perhaps you could overpower the eldest. Gently reaching out with your telepathy, you grasp their meagre presences. All three of them still slumber, and you refrain from bothering them. You decide to remain with them as often as possible, rather than exploring your surroundings.
Curling up quietly in the nest, you wait for movement from the eggs. It takes a while. Every second feels like an eternity to you, and you swiftly grow impatient. Eventually, you drift off to sleep as well. Your energy is spent after that brief scuffle, and you'll need lots of rest to grow up big and strong.
Being to young to even dream, your sleep is peaceful and seamless. You're eventually awakened by heavy footfalls approaching the nest. The only creature it could be is your mother, and you look up as her bulky form comes into view again. A smaller set of scrabbling claws become audible from deeper in the cave, and your sibling sprints over. They're already steadier on their feet than you are, and charge into the nest in anticipation. You fear another attack, but with your mother looming over the both of you, that fright ends up being unfounded.
A low hum resonates from her chest, calling you both to attention. Your beloathed sibling seems to already know what’s happening, leaving you to stare upwards in anticipation. Her great head descends, hovering over your own. Your sibling roughly pushes you aside and opens their mouth, turning their neck upwards.
Your mother heaves with her chest and throat, throwing up a mass that your brother clamors to snap up. You feel a gnawing in your own belly, and your nostrils flare in jealousy. Hunger. The concept strikes you for the first time, and before you know it, you’re chirping and begging for a taste. A glob of the substance finds its way into your mouth soon enough. It’s absolutely delicious. It tastes sharp and tangy, though has a certain stinging quality that makes your tongue shrivel. You swallow it with relish, supping on the fine goop while competing with your elder sibling. They constantly push you out of the way, and by the time mother is done, they’ve gotten the biggest share of this food.
Your mother walks off immediately, leaving you unattended once more. Your sibling growls, but is too full to cause trouble this time. You settle down by the eggs, satisfied by your very first meal.
