Keeping the errant status means more feat of arms, and easier climbing the ranks of nobility, at the cost of immediate political influence.
Choosing to stop errance here and then would let Hector become a Banneret, already honorable rank, granted by his past deeds. Castellan seems unlikely - Hector have not done any significant "Coup d'éclat" -- highly praised feats of arms like taking down a dragon, saving the life of the king, leading the liberation of a town -- for the kingdom. Unless Guillot manage to sing his praises good enough?
