Why? To preserve whatever shred of humanity still remains?
Rubbish.
Even if you were to draw your own line in the sand, so will others.
To most you're already no more than a monster.
An undying affront to the gods. An abomination.
Whatever line there may be, it was crossed the moment you crawled from the pile.
When you refused to die when you should have.
If they are going to call you a monster, then you might as well give them reason to.
You slam both hands against the still warm corpse of the wolf.
The flesh around your fingers spreads out like a blossoming flower, then digs into the wolf.
Your form begins to draw in the wolf's everything.
Starting from what's within, you watch as the wolf grows thinner by the second, its ribcage strained against the skin.
Your tendrils hit upon the brain, forcing you to close your eyes as the mundane creature's memories wash over you.
A simple world dyed in greys and blacks, yellows and blue.
But a world brimming with scents.
The strong dank smells of marshland.
Sharp scents indicating where one creature's territory begins and another's ends.
The rank odour of unwashed bodies, a town of man that borders the forest.
A crisp, clean aroma of a forest lake that rejuvenates the senses.
All of which with their own variety of experiences.
Places to hunt, creatures to confront, and dangers to avoid.
Once again, they come all at once.
Once again.
You must choose.
