"Yeah yeah. Fehkam. I'll just hang on and look pretty."
"Heh, I get it cause your face is. . uh." I keep glaring at him through the mask as his laughter fades. "I'll just go talk to those guys over there."
While he talks with the guards i lean against the cart and cross my arms, looking out at the marsh waters. I do catch sight of a gator thing moving through the water. Almost like it's waiting for someone to dip into the drink for it to get a free meal. My nature gazing is cut short as we're ushered past the gate.
Walking through the gate i start to get a picture of what Carcina meant when she said this place operates on a loss. the whole thing looks run down and barely working. I've seen near abandoned boomtowns that were in better shape. There's at least two buildings that seem to be in a good state of upkeep, and we seem to be heading to one. Most of the people milling about seem to take notice of us but don't approach. i do see a woman with ears like Carcina's run for the other well kept building. Guess they were right about us spooking some people.
As we're walking i turn to Iwanna and ask him a few questions. "Say, there wouldn't happen to be anything like a general goods store or a bank here? I don't know if my money will be taken here."
"Money? You mean coins? I mean, nobody really cares what the gold or copper is, it's all counted the same."
"Don't know about gold but i have a few pennies. Still, shops here?"
"Mostly guild sponsored merchants. Not much comes out here, after all this place is mostly kept to grow the herbs needed for potions. There's nothing else of value out here and the roads are tough."
"Great. Would any of them at least be a chemist?"
"Like an alchemist? Oh, uh, yeah we have one here. They're more research focused than making stuff." At least theres some good news here.
We finally arrive at this "Hall", the cart left out front and i'm directed inside. It looks like a saloon on one side, but directly stepping in there's a desk with paper filled shelves all around the back of it. The lady at the desk waves to us as we walk in, at least until she see's me. She looks like she see's a ghost for a moment but Wun walks forward and starts a conversation. I go to a wall and lean on it while i take out a cigar to smoke. Only just before i cut the cigar I realize i have this damn mask blocking me from actually smoking. The saloon is unfortunately packed too, so no chance of taking it off now. "Dammit." i say, stowing my case and lower my head and wait.
"S-Sir Henry?" a unfamiliar voice calls over. It's the desk lass.
"What?"
"C-could you follow me to the Branch Master's office."
I nod, and follow upstairs to see a man wearing specs with his elbows on the table and hands clasped waiting behind the desk. "Wun says you seem clueless on most things and i frankly don't have reason not to believe him. So lets start this can of worms with an open question, what can you tell me?" No introductions? rude.
