You fill Doc in on your successful operation, taking care to pause every so often so you can pull out the .app usage logs. He's happy with Fr1tz's performance, and offers you a few new copies of each. You resolve to take the time to learn them properly once you have a few free days. He's particularly interested in what Vademon and Datamon were doing inside the operating room, and when you pitch Squid's theories, he's in total agreement.
"It does sound doable. It's too cruel a thing for me to ever attempt. But I suppose some Digimon aren't born with scruples."
<span class="mu-s">"What I'm wondering is: Why does a piece of crap like him want a healing ray? He seems trigger-happy, killing is more his speed."</span>
Doc shrugs.
"Having that ability would be very useful. Cutemon is able to trade with it, after all. But we'll never know for sure. Don't count on seeing him again. What happened while you were trying to leave?"
That's when you explain Hoverespimon's trap. You're particularly concerned about this one, and you pass Doc your Digivice so he can take a look at the watch functions. Since it was a whole day ago, he has to hook it up to a device to trawl the minute-to-minute logs that the device generates by itself.
"Is this like metadata?" You ask, a little concerned.
"Not at all, actually. It doesn't track anything but .app usage, it doesn't let anybody observe your actions and positioning. It's just a system to keep time synchronized. If it was exploited... Ah, here!"
He points to several lines of completely indecipherable code, as though they solve your whole mystery.
<span class="mu-s">"Care to explain?"</span>
"At this point of time, your Linker experienced a slowed tickrate localized around an area. Did you notice anything odd at all? Think back to it. About four minutes before here-"
He points to the part where your VPN expired. That's when you were already inside the Network. You work backwards by several minutes, wracking your brain to remember exactly what you were doing.
"Nothing. We were just walking and talking, but no Digimon were around. Then we jumped through a window and landed, that's all."
"That must have been exactly it. If there was nothing interesting going on, you wouldn't need to observe your environment and realize that things were moving faster around you."
<span class="mu-s">"Right. So he... Slowed our time down? Lagged us out?"</span>
"Correct. And .apps like the VPN are drawing on a hard limit, if your senses are scrambled, they still tick."
"But the timer updated once we were-"
<span class="mu-s">"Far enough away from the Hospital. We took a few more steps before realizing."</span>
"So it was localized to the building. Like Squid theorized." You conclude.
"Yes. So be cautious around that one. I can say with finality that he tried to trap you."
<span class="mu-s">"We gave him the two Ultimates too... Scumbag! Argh, I should have shot him! No more negotiating with them! Apart from Hi-Commandramon. He's the only kind of dirty cop I'm okay with."</span>
