== BEGINNING OF CHAPTER 8: SADALA STATION, THE FATE OF THE SAIYANS! ==
The first few days of the trip had passed. One of those boring mornings you ate with Kalabash and Nappa in the new canteen after spending the morning training with them. The food was better this time around, Bulma’s mother had cooked enough food to last the crew for an entire month. Of course you had to keep it frozen so it didn’t spoil, but her ingredients were so good that the food remained tasty. The rest of the crew had yet to come by to eat.
The meal was mostly silent, there was nothing like enjoying homemade food after some rough exercise. Nappa seemed reticent to eat after the first few bites.
“Is something wrong, Nappa?” You ask, slightly irked by the fact that you seem to have to push it out of him.
“I, uh…” He looks at his food, then at Kalabash. “I’ve been meaning to ask you a question.”
The other Saiyan did not expect the conversation to head towards him. “Huh?” He says. “Me?”
“Yeah, about the Saiyan resistance.”
“Oh, of course.” Kalabash replies, he puts the cutlery down on his platter. “What about it?”
“Was there a woman in it? A little older than me. Non-combatant. Good with weapons. About the height of your wife with short, black hair that parts mostly to her right side?” Nappa asks, it seems by his saddened tone that he’s expecting a negative answer.
“Uh…” Kalabash starts thinking. “Well that is a rather generic female Saiyan.” Kalabash says, Nappa furrows his brows as he stabs the chicken on his plate, discouraged. “What was her name? We usually knew each other’s names in the resistance.” Kalabash says.
“Sibara, though she mostly went by Sid.”
“Oh, yeah. Sidara was a technician that specialized in the station’s weapon systems.” Kalabash replies. “One of the veterans of the crew, actually.”
You see Nappa’s eyes light up. “Really, are you sure?” He says.
“Yeah, she was very high ranking, for a non-combatant.” Kalabash continues. “You could say she was Taliso’s second-in-command.”
“What happened to her?”
“I have no idea.” Kalabash says. “The last battle was a blur. There were so many Frieza soldiers and we all knew our cause was lost. We were boarding pods and ships to leave as quickly as possible.” You can see that he is not enjoying the memories this story brings. “The warrior Saiyans flew out into space to fight the invaders and tear a way out for the escaping ships.”
It takes a moment for Kalabash to continue. You and Nappa wait patiently. “Many died fighting. Only a few of the ships and warriors broke through. Those warriors that did boarded the ships and we entered hyperspeed. Each ship went its own way to avoid persecution, and most only had fuel for one trip.”
Kalabash shuts his eyes, holding back tears. “I was so glad to see that Gisa was safe.”
Nappa frowns. “I’m glad she was.” He shakes his head. “Whether Sibara lived or died, at least she did so fighting.”
