>>5802836You followed Nemenmo’s gaze again, as it shifted to those sparkling fairy-lights which danced around the more material gathering. In your second-sight you say small, sexless beings with simple, spherical faces encircled with sunburst halos, and beings of orange-tinted shadow peering out from behind stones that they almost seemed conjoined to, as they watched the goings-on with curiosity. They seemed bemused to hear your father’s singing and strumming, though you could tell the Ashurati were beginning to lose interest (and to regret encouraging him) as he grew louder and added a prancing dance to the mix.
“Well, it was… Also impressive.”
Nemenmo looked back to you, arching a hairless brow.
“You wish to make use of it,” she said. “To invoke us.”
It wasn’t a question—and, in truth, you weren’t asking. You both knew what this was, which was why her people had led YOUR people away, to give you privacy. In abandoning you after you freely gave her your aid, as a visitor in HER lands, Nemenmo had done a shameful thing. The Bonum Chaoticum valued one law above all others, even if they were a ‘chaotic’ tribe of spirits. The Law of Hospitality was sacrosanct, ESPECIALLY among fellow fey… As you were, by your tongue and by your mother’s blood. You were here to call in a debt, and for the sake of her tribe, her race, and their relations with the local court of True Fey whom the Ashurati-Neme regarded as ancestors, she WOULD pay.
“Yes,” you said, wasting no more breath on pleasantries.
“Name the price,” Nemenmo said, turning to face you directly, hands on hips, defiant in her submission.
