The road widened and took on a more traveled look, and soon Wilhelm saw the red-painted stone walls rise up in front of him from out of the trees. The front gate was manned by a young man no older than Wilhelm. "Are you here for the festival?" called the young man on the rampart.
"Yes," Wilhelm called back. He did not think it was wrong to say, since he <span class="mu-i">was</span> curious about the festival.
"You can tie up your horse outside the back gate," the young man called back down to him, and then called down to someone inside, "Open the gates!"
