Passing through the ship like a living shadow. C2 slithers under your robes, the colour of night, bored, wanting to do something to pass the hours. As you enter the ship’s central, large room, you see Ryn Sol hunched over a chair, looking at a holoprojector that displays the different colours of the independent nations mapped across the galaxy. This projection shows a galaxy with a vastness you can not even comprehend. Trillions of lives are hidden within the smallest spec. Even a simple sector holds such complexities and marvels that you would not even begin to understand, except for anything but brief descriptors.
“Hi,” Ryn speaks out as you creep up on the blue-skinned man.
“Hey, how’s it going?” You ask, then clarify, “The war, I mean.”
“The Third Fleet won at Alpheridies but has been shredded in the process. The initial plan was to continue deeper into Republic space, but too many ships have suffered critical damage. A few ships did continue deeper, but not much further. Disappointing really, all that expended for a single system. Yes, the Republic’s fleet has been heavily damaged, and they’ve lost a couple of worlds, but it wasn’t what was hoped.” Ryn looks at the image mournfully.
Running a hand over your head, you pace in disappointment at the news. “Attrition isn’t a game we want to be playing. The Republic controls the Core and outnumbers us a hundred to one. We need a breakthrough, a real one.”
“Yes, and the news doesn’t stop there. Umbara is being invaded by the 22nd, 38th and 31st armies. The fighting is intense, and every continent is ablaze. Shield generators are holding, so orbital bombardments are not happening. I do not know how it will turn out. There are reports that the 2nd fleet lost at Tirahnn, not only lost, but there are rumours that the Republic is pushing into Taanab.”
“It can’t fall,” You say with desperation rather than belief.
Ryn solemnly agrees, “It mustn’t, if it does fall, we will be pushed out of the Inner Rim and soon into the Mid Rim. It is our anchor.”
“You think we will be redeployed?” You asked, as you intensely gaze at the troubling display, as if you could glean something positive hiding in the map.
“Who knows. Possibly, but pouring Sith Acolytes into a war isn’t a common occurrence. I think the First Fleet might get deployed to the front, to stabilise the Taanab area.” Ryn replies as he plays with his Lethorn.
