In the end Lucian decided that they should get moving and look for a fortress of somekind. It would be quite the place to take up at least a night’s worth of shelter within and possibly get himself some new armor.
Getting the Kroxigor to move was not too much of a struggle. The large creature began to move at the call of its name and was already following him down the roads before the sun even reached evening.
Near the lake, through what was a thankfully thin forest of trees, was the first road that Lucian had seen on this island. There the two of them began their walk in a direction Lucian hoped was deeper into the island of Albion and to a place where a fortress could be found. From what the villagers said there was indeed somekind of fortress that they were all fleeing towards.
So that would be their goal, Luciand decided. Though it did not help that Lucian did not even know where the village was from where the two of them walked. All he saw, even as they were well into the day, was fog which had settled in the nearby plains like water at the bottom of a basin. Perhaps such a fog was the reason there were no citizens nearby, that it being nearby was a clear cover for things like Beastmen to come rolling out of.
Indeed it was an odd sight, made even odder that the road they were walking upon was hugging the forest that bordered the valley which acted as a basin for the fog. An odd errie feeling Lucian kept coming back to.
When they had reached the other side of this valley, whose length must have been that of a county, was when Lucian and Bok both saw it.
Sticking in the ground where the road forked was a massive scupture. At least, that was the best way to describe it as calling it a pillar was something that the Knight did not think was the right way to describe such a creation. The full structure looked like a snake zigging and zagging in vertical and horizontal movements that were of perfect order.
As they approached it the Knight saw it was indeed a sculpture of a snake, though the face did not look fanged but instead that of a lizard. Suspicions raised, the Knight walked up to the status to get the closest look.
Across its scales and the base where the snake originated from were dozens of different images of creatures. Lucian recognized one of them quickly as the same headress that Tee-Nee-Tyny wears, so he reasoned quickly that this pillar was made by Lizardmen.
There was no grand temple nearby though. No sign of a place they could go to divine the origin of the chaos which runs through the old world. Only a single pillar who seemed to stand vigil over the fog.
When Lucian looked away from the statue was when the Knight saw Bok groveling at the base of it, the Kroxigor paying reverence to the Old Ones that are its gods.
