Guess I was mostly remembering from 2e, where ancient dragons could get casually tanked in melee by any decently specced fighter. You keep your mental stats as normal for Polymorph and Wildshape, I think. So you get the best of both worlds, the physical stats of the morphed thing and your own character's brains.
