Oblivion recedes.
The pressure that surrounded your body subsides and you slump unceremoniously against the cold metal of your stasis chamber. Your fingers grope at the cannulas that protrude from your skin and the clumps of crystallised nanite milk that sticks to your flesh. Once you have gathered your strength, you manage to tear out the tubes and peel off the hardened white gel. Once that is done, you press your palms against the door to the chamber and force it open, with considerable effort.
The bunker that you find yourself in isn't very big. The walls, ceiling and floor are nothing but metal grates, lit with the sterile light of fluorescent tubes. There's a lot of machinery dedicated to keeping the stasis chamber that you stepped out of operational, but there's also a locker and a bulky-looking door. As you wander towards the locker, you can't help but realise something – you can't remember anything. You don't know where you are, or who you are, nothing at all. There's just the vague sense that something has gone wrong. This isn't what you had planned at all.
Inside the locker, there's undergarments and a drab grey jumpsuit made out of ceramic fibre. It's not pretty, but you're already starting to feel a little cold and exposed, so you dress yourself. Next, there is a survival knife with a four inch blade and a bulbous firearm with a layer of mesh covering its broad and conical barrel. You decide against pulling the trigger while you're still stuck in this bunker – you'll give it a shot once you're somewhere a little more open. Finally, there is a handheld GPS unit. Once you turn it on, it shows the route to a location called Dispenser 309, that is two hundred miles away. Maybe you'll be able to find some answers there.
Once you've collected everything that the locker has to offer, you turn towards the door. There's a porthole, but it's completely covered by something... red and meaty, like someone slapped a steak over the glass. If you want to get out, you have no choice but to smash the red button mounted on the door – so that's exactly what you do. An audible hissing soon follows and then after a few moment, there's a thunderous bang. Light shines through the porthole as whatever was covering it is blown away, but before you can what lies outside, the bunker door swings open.
