Truth be told, you don't feel like fighting another hero tonight. Whatever monster instincts you have that demand total human death are easily suppressed for now. You're already done here, time to leave.
You pull out your new machine pistol. A MONSTER with a gun is probably as much of a stylistic clash as a samurai with one, but it's totally different when you do it!
– "We're just going to break straight through them" You inform Rayle. She takes it as an opportunity to complain as usual. You know not to pay it much mind by now.
– "Man, I'm gonna get shot again.. you're going back to being the party's tank anytime soon?"
– "And just let this cool suit collect dust?"
– "Nah, I'm gonna wear it instead." Rayle states with a dumb grin that shows she knows full well how ridiculous the idea is. You snort a little and refocus at the task ahead.
The HERO and her fire support disappear into the ground floor doors beneath. You give it thirty more seconds and open fire. The window shatters outward as your inaccurate-by-design burst splashes across the side of the truck that soldiers use to block the street. The low-caliber recoil feels nice in your tentacle. Like clockwork, the squad dives for cover, spreading around the parked cars.
Rayle has already jumped, hopping out of the window to the stone decorations on the wall below, then down to the street. Her bladed legs sink into the asphalt a bit, but she doesn't stumble. You fire the rest of the mag, cloak, and follow, the low body mass making fall damage a non-issue at this height.
When you reach the squad, their heavy is lighting up the window you shot from. Rayle barrels into him with a flying knee to the face, sending the man flying in a majestic arc. Invisible, you sprint right behind her, straight down the street, giving the military truck a tap on the engine compartment on your way. The Stick does incredible damage, gratuitously pulping the car's front. That should stop them from giving chase, unless those jarheads are hotwire experts.
A soldier pops out of cover right in front of you. In an impressive bit of perception, he actually recognizes the blur sprinting at him as a target. The glowing Stick and an unhidden tentacle also help, you suppose. He doesn't have time to swap to his standard-issue sword, so he blocks your Stick with his gun. Predictably, the gun shatters, and the impact sends the man flying to the side.
Remaining soldiers take some potshots at Rayle from behind you, but she does a sharp turn into the nearest alleyway. You quickly follow.
Finding an underground access in this district of the City is quite difficult even during normal times. The increased monster activity of the last days made the situation worse, but when everything fails, there's always sewers. You and Rayle both squeeze into the narrow, foul-smelling tunnels before any heroes can intercept you. After a short trek deeper into the domain of monsters, you're home free.
