>>5369036Before you stands the architect of Venezuela’s misery, a decades-long tyrant who’s bloodied his hands with scores of innocent lives.
As you stare into panic-struck face, all you can think about is how this reckoning has been a long time coming.
You had this bastard dead to rights during your strike on the Assembly, but Task Force X was able to able to bail him out of trouble.
Considering how thoroughly you’ve trounced their strike team and literally ripped the heart out of their heaviest hitter, the chances of that happening again are considerably lower.
Now, you just need to figure out how to handle the bastard.
An uncomfortably large part of you yearns to just take the easy way out and cut his throat.
It’d hardly be a hassle. You’ve still got your KABAR handy, and the war room comes equipped with recording equipment.
But as tempting as it’d be, you keep the impulse in check. After all, this is much bigger than you.
The creeping tendrils of political necessity demand that you attempt to legitimize the takeover somehow.
A televised execution would give the international community the perfect excuse to hammer Venezuela with sanctions, or potentially even dispatch “peacekeepers” to stomp out the Jungle Rats.
And regardless of how things turn out, one fact remains certain. Your fate and that of Venezuela’s has been inexorably linked. You’ve spilled and shed blood for this country, and you’re determined to see things play out as best as you can.
To that end, Pedraza will have his day in court. He’ll get the show trial he deserves, everyone will have a good laugh at his expense, and then he’ll be sentenced to the only fate he deserves. His cronies might actually stand a chance, but Pedraza definitely isn’t making it out clean.
Patience has never been your greatest virtue, but you’re willing to keep your feelings in check so long as it serves your greater objectives.
Besides, it probably won’t be too hard to secure yourself front-row tickets at his inevitable execution.
