I thought the Bacchanal story game dice pool idea was very original and unique, it is more of an improvisational tool (ie highest die in dice pool dictates which character / story element takes lead). It works best if each character / dice pool single die has a strongly determined and discernible motivation (eg in the Roman setting gods example, this is quite obvious) you could for example immediately take that setting and substitute in WARHAMMER 40K eg the four chaos gods battling over the fate of a chaos undivided acolyte etc, I think you wouldn't even need to change the dice step sizes (the reason why the Bacchanal system uses d8s is because there are broadly 8 separate dramatic elements etc, but you can easily adjust the system)
