An old, barely legible, plaque near the edge describes that this canyon was carved by the mighty Colorado River. You make your way down and walk it for days, to one end and back the other way. You avoid an occasional Legion patrol and encounter a few villages, but what you really find interesting is a Legion base built into the canyon. It’s not only equipped with heavy weaponry but has veteran soldiers conducting patrols this far into Legion land.
You have a few days from when Daisy is supposed to pick you up so curiosity gets the best of you. The Stealth Suit Mkll lets you pass their lines easily and as you cross deeper into the canyon going opposite of the river flow, you encounter the bones and ruined equipment of Legion soldiers ranging from weeks to months old.
You soon find the cause.
Robots of all shapes, sizes and kinds blanket the canyon. They are constantly on patrol, stopping at the edge of this no man’s land and returning to their source. A slow crawl eventually reveals a massive wreck of a structure crushed into the canyon and broken into the shape of an “V”. It sort of looks like the spoke of a wheel with a central module connected to an outer ring similar to a tire. Or maybe not, the thing is so destroyed that you’re just guessing at this point.
It doesn’t look like a building and you can’t imagine what vehicle it could have been years ago, but any attempts of getting closer are stopped by a new combat robot you’ve never seen before.
They’re humanoid, with one glowing red eye in the middle of a recessed cross. Its left hand is a claw that turns into a whirring blade while its right is a powerful laser that rivals a rifle of the same type. If that isn’t enough, its head turns into a bigger laser capable of slicing through solid rock. You find this all out at nearly the same time you find out they can pick up on your stealth field. They don’t seem to have perfect tracking but between them and the rest of the robots, you’re quickly chased out of the canyon.
You make your way up the canyon walls and back out into the mean desert. You mark the location of this wreckage for future use, whenever that is. Ash Fork is a welcome reprieve from your trek through Arizona and Daisy soon returns to bring you back to civilization.
