"Apparently it's in the second highest threat ranking of whatever ranking P-Company uses? I never paid too much attention when one of my brothers rambled about it."
Benjamin rubs the bridge of his nose. "I think that would've been relevant to learn when you started becoming a Cleaner. Do you know how fucking worried I was when you came home that night?"
"Yeah, yeah, I was shivering like a wet dog. It got contained! Though, supposedly the facility that owned it is now abandoned. Whoops! Not my problem!" She cackles. "Put down some more cards, Benny boy."
"W-wait, so it's still out there? Mind giving me some advice if I see it again?" A new set of cards are dished out to you two. This time, your hand blows. A high card of 5. Shit, gotta bluff this time. You hope she buys it. "Blind bet of $75." You place $75 on the table. So does she.
"I tried my best to repress the encounter." She glances at her cards. A smug smirk imprints itself on her face. "But, no matter how much it could copy someone's voice, it only seems to know how it sounds. Not how they actually talk. I dunno, learn your friend's speaking pattern or somethin'."
You take a moment to memorize it. "Alright. Raise. $150." You slap another $75 onto the table. Max instantly slaps down another $75. "Call."
Benjamin mutters to himself when he seemingly catches on to what's going on. "Oh boy. Max, you know she has a way better hand, right?" Or maybe not, your hand blows. "Why else would she be betting this much."
"Ah, bullshit." Max waves dismissively at Benjamin. "She's clearly trying to bluff me out here. Raise. $200." She slaps another $50 onto the table. "She doesn't have the balls, metaphorically and literally, to go that high."
"C-c'mon, you think this is my first time seeing people play poker? Fuck, my brothers down at District 14 used to do this bullshit all the time. Had to pay attention when I was a kid."
"Pft, what, was your dream becoming some sort of dealer for a casino?"
There's an awkward silence when Benjamin takes a long while to respond. Max seems as confused as you are. The two of you sit in mutual silence before you speak up first.
"Wait, that was your dream job before the drug stuff?"
"I THOUGHT IT WAS COOL! THE TV SHOWS MADE IT LOOK A LOT COOLER THAN IT WAS."
"Oh my god. Benny dear, is THAT why you wanted to be our dealer?" Max is trying to hide her obvious amusement.
"S-shut up. I think it was cool."
You shrug. "I just think the drug thing is a smarter move. All in, $221." You slap basically all of your money onto the table. Max snorts. "That's it? Darn, your missions must blow. Alright. I'll give you some credit. Raise, $250. Keep going."
"$300." "$350." "$400."
"$450!" Both of you yell out at the same time. This seems to be the stopping point for both of you. Max seems hesitant at the idea of raising it any further. "Jeez, alright, fine. I fold." She lays her cards on the table.
"That's two out of three."
