The horse's canter dropped and the cartwheels slowed to a stop. Asphodel snorted and nervously stepped from one foot to the other. "Easy, boy," Wilhelm said to his horse.
A man stood in front of the log with his back to Wilhelm. Beside the man, an axe stood resting against the log. The woodsman took a drink from a skin.
Wilhelm called down to the man. "Excuse me!" Wilhelm looked at the dreary swampland around him. The road was hemmed on both sides by muddy ground. The log blocked the road completely. He smiled and called down to the woodsman again. "Do you need help with this fallen tree?"
