The Sanctum is open to any pilgrim that has come thus far, but first each one of you must eat and rest the night. Some unruly murmur of protest is heard from the procession, but this is swiftly dissipated when you see a hint of the iron in the old man’s authority in the command that follows.
The Salve Sanctum is the site this very building was built around, and perhaps the holiest shrine in all of the Cantônian faith given that is technically the starting point of the Long Walk. But to go there and meditate in the hushed halls straight from the road, without food and rest first is not an option. The Sanctum will still be there tomorrow. Although he smiles warmly as he says it, the Chapter Master forcefully refuses any requests to pay homage to the Salve Sanctum, and no one presses the issue.
It is hard for a rumbling belly to argue overmuch with an offer of free food, you suppose. And even you find yourself looking forward to the more temporal pleasure of a meal and rest, a well-earned respite after this long journey. A warm meal, prepared by others in this strange land. Reginae Wept, a bed! A proper cot as opposed to a hammock or roll of bedding draped over a saddle on the ground. You’ve not enjoyed such a thing since your time in Pascae, and that was more out of necessity in recovering from your penance.
