It started to dawn on you that not everyone here was as lucky as you were. Not everyone had a friend, foster parent and personal hero that would do anything for them. That made you feel a bit guilty, but you quickly pushed the feeling down and refocused on the task at hand.
You couldn't afford to feel bad for these people. Not yet, at least. If their bosses ordered it, they might just jump you all at once. You were only going along with this to buy yourself some time for Ben and Ana to track you down.
But they didn't need to know that. So long as you didn’t offend their precious “Headmaster”, you would hopefully be safe from harm.
When you finally made it to the elevator without being attacked from behind, you allowed your muscles to relax a hit. And from the way you didn’t have to duck to avoid bonking your head on the door's frame, your body had returned to its original height at some point during your travels.
Both girls seemed curious about your sudden physical transformation, but neither brought it up in conversation. Liberty punched some sort of code into the elevator panel's console, and you committed it to memory while pretending not to pay attention.
You'd be surprised if these guys didn't regularly scramble their access codes, but it never hurt to check.
As the elevator started to ascend, you took some time to perform a physical inspection.
You unraveled the bandages around your hands and pressed your thumb and forefinger into several pressure points in your hands. The sharp, red claws that tipped your fingers flexed slightly from the pressure, and the sensation left you feeling mildly uncomfortable. They were short and relatively thin, kind of like cat claws.
These things really had grown out your fingers. That could mean a lot of things.
You were pretty sure you weren't a vampire. Dhampir Daywalker are extremely rare, and considering your lack of literal bloodthirst, you thought you could safely check that off the list.
You probably weren't a werewolf, either. Your transformation had occurred during the daytime, and not on a full moon. And if memory served, you weren't exhibiting any of the usual symptoms for someone afflicted with Lycanthropy.
Now, that didn't mean that you were completely in the clear. There were all sorts of were-creatures out there. You might just belong to a painfully specific variant species with a different set of problems. The size alteration was a bit of an unexpected symptom, though.
If you found out that you secretly had troll, ogre or giant blood, you were going to throw a fit. You thought “Cat Shifter” or “Hyena Shifter” was a safe enough bet,
The point was, plenty of creatures had teeth and claws. It was just going to take you a while to figure out exactly what you were. After you were out of here, you'd have to perform a closer inspection.
