You break from your tank and approach the lone merchant. He lifts his head at the sound of your step; his features are masked by a black hood, himself clapped in irons around his neck and limbs. He sets a thick book down–several towers of such flank his sides.
“Ah.. a new one. And not of the typical monster hunter sort, are we?” He laughs low, his speech more eloquent than his look belies. “You’ve come to barter, then. Please, have a look at my wares–but you should know that they might not be of the sort you’re accustomed to.”
You look the man’s goods over–they’re books, pamphlets, and manuscripts of all matter, not at all like the weapons and tools of those prior. “What? Are you a literary type?” You scoff.
“Mmmm, well.. the CHURCH and the AUF ARSENE aren’t one for typical grave goods merchants, you know–grave robbing is a serious crime, after all.” He chuckles beneath the hood. “But we have a.. mutually beneficial arrangement. They let me brave the block ahead, relieve corpses of their goods, and bring them back to their owners for free at the shrine.. but in return, they allow me to keep the books off their bodies and sell them.”
“Are they of that much interest?” You frown, picking a book over and flipping it around–it’s a recipe book, with a hundred recipes for turtle-related dishes.
“Well, I like to purloin information, you see. It’s a hobby of mine.” He points to his own book–it’s a record of CORPUS CHURCH inquisitions into the dungeon. “You’d be fascinated by what you can learn from such books left behind by those that explore here. All manners of history, backgrounds.. I simply like to learn.”
